Professor Silvio Micali, Ford professor of Engineering from the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, shared his expertise with DSTA staff during a DSTA Lecture.

In particular, he introduced the ‘blockchain trilemma’, which highlights the problem of how to develop blockchain technology that offers decentralisation, scalability and security without compromising either one. Professor Micali also shared his opinion that while blockchain allows users to enjoy a borderless economy and manage transactions in a cohesive and fast manner, new technologies are needed to fulfil its full potential. It would also require the right infrastructure, much like a bridge that connects people from two different sides.

Organised by DSTA Academy to promote continual learning and knowledge sharing, the DSTA Lecture series features outstanding international subject matter experts who share on their field of expertise.
