Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Heng commented on the importance of safeguarding Singapore's sea lines of communication and how a strong Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) is key to protecting our maritime sovereignty. He also highlighted the strong partnership between the Singapore Armed Forces, the Defence Technology Community and the local industry partners which contributed to the programme's success. He said: “In the relatively short time of nine years, eight LMVs were designed and built from scratch, with five already operationally ready. The team overcame challenges with tenacity, utilising innovative solutions to bring about a 'uniquely Singapore' LMV that is purpose-built to meet the RSN's demanding operational requirements."

DSTA manages the LMV programme as the overall systems integrator, overseeing various aspects including the ship's design, construction, and integration of different components and systems. Working with RSN and ST Engineering, the team delivered a more capable, faster and mission-flexible ship with better seakeeping endurance.

All eight LMVs are expected to be fully operational by 2020.
