Contributing to a Good Cause

At the Hair for Hope satellite event hosted by DSTA on 12 July 2017, 24 volunteers took a bold step to show their support for children stricken with cancer.

Organised by Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF), Hair for Hope is an annual event meant to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer, with volunteers coming together to shed their locks to show solidarity for the children and their families. DSTA has organised the satellite event in its office premises for the past seven years.

For some DSTA volunteers, the event is part of their commitment to give back to society. Project Lead (Advanced Systems) Thomas Sim and Senior Systems Architect (Networked Systems) Ho Mun Chuen have both participated in the event every year since 2011.

Senior Technical Officer (Building and Infrastructure) Jessie Loh was the only female shavee this year. She had asked her son Eugene to join her at DSTA’s satellite event since 2014 and this is their third time participating.

For others like Engineer (InfoComm Infrastructure) Toh Zhen Kai, the experience was a new one. He shared: “It was my first time participating in Hair for Hope and it definitely won’t be the last! I hope my small gesture will help to heighten awareness for the cause.”

In addition to the sale of CCF merchandises to raise funds for the event, DSTA also conducted a charity bake sale that was sponsored by Senior Assistant Executive (Shared Services Centre) Kris Anna Mathana and Senior Assistant Executive (Shared Services Centre) Jennifer Lee.
