Celebrating our Heritage through Giving

08 Aug 2023

DSTA premises were abuzz with activities at our National Day Observance Ceremony on 8 August 2023. In a sea of red and white, we celebrated our nation’s birthday through a heritage carnival, while also giving back to the community!

No celebration is complete without a feast, and we had a spread! Staff were treated to a symphony of flavours with traditional food like roti prata, nyonya laksa, kueh pie tee, carrot cake, nasi lemak and satay. Not forgetting local desserts like goreng pisang, traditional ice cream, putu piring and soya bean milk!

Besides the food, staff could travel back in time with nostalgic games like chapteh and five stones.

There were other modern games for staff to choose from as well. Apart from giant jenga, staff could test their knowledge on how well they knew Singapore’s culture and landmarks through a Singapore trivia quiz and a Singapore geoguesser. For the latter, staff had to pinpoint the exact location of a Singapore landmark on google maps just from a single image. Staff could also win prizes such as a milk tea plushie and an octopus toy if they beat a score set by the organising team!

To top it all off, staff participated in a Heritage Passport Challenge where they start off by collecting a unique stamp at each booth to add to their collection. After collecting five unique stamps, they could head over to our prize booth and stood a chance to win many attractive prizes – such as NDP fun packs and many more tasty treats via lucky draw.

In the National Day spirit of being “Onward As One”, we also had a charity drive where we gave as one, and all proceeds went to the Community Chest in support of various welfare organisations. It was definitely a fun-filled and meaningful day to remember!
