Making a Mark with Design and Innovation

22 Aug 2024

For designing an aircrew management system that allows more efficient scheduling and tracking of aircrew statuses, a multidisciplinary DSTA team clinched the Singapore Good Design (SG Mark) 2024 award under the Digital Design category on 22 August 2024.

Conferred by the Design Business Chamber Singapore, the SG Mark was established to set the benchmark for exceptional design quality that impacts businesses and communities in Singapore and beyond.

For over a decade, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has managed flight administration using a Digital Management System. This system was operated separately from the primary network used by aircrew where critical daily functions reside.

Over time, as flight management processes became increasingly convoluted, team members from DSTA’s C3 Development and Digital Hub Programme Centres joined hands to innovate solutions and designed FlightBridge.

With its user-centric design, FlightBridge integrates various applications into a seamless one-stop hub, optimising the accuracy, interpretation, and presentation of mission-critical information for operational excellence for the RSAF.

The team’s innovative solution revolutionises flight administration and elevates the RSAF’s operational prowess.

Speaking about the award, Senior UX Designer (Digital Hub) Bertram Yeo shared, “We’re humbled to be able to bring honour to DSTA and the FlightBridge team, and hope to motivate other product teams with this award. FlightBridge helps squadrons and aircrew navigate the complexities of flight administration with optimal accuracy, flexibility and ease of use, essentially liberating their time to focus on more important tasks such as flying. We are proud to deliver this capability to the RSAF.”
