30 Jun 2023
On 30th June, men and women in uniform stood alongside staff of DSTA to pledge themselves to the defence of Singapore during the SAF Day Rededication Ceremony 2023.
On behalf of Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen, Chief Executive Mervyn Tan delivered the SAF Day message.
The message highlighted the importance of having a strong SAF in order to deter aggression, deal with all threats, and keep Singapore an oasis of peace and harmony.
Part of the ceremony also recognised 36 NSmen who were promoted this year.
Among the promotes, Senior Programme Manager (Simulation and Training Systems Hub) Alvin Ong, said: “The rededication serves as a reminder on the importance of Singapore’s independence and National Service. When taking the SAF pledge with my fellow NSmen, I know I am not alone in this sacred duty.”
Senior Programme Manager (Naval Systems) Chua Yew Hang, who was also promoted, shared that National Service is the “bedrock of Singapore’s national defence, where every able-bodied male takes up the solemn oath to defend our nation.” As part of his NS duties, Yew Hang worked onboard a Littoral Mission Vessel, where he was put in charge of various systems, from propulsion, to navigation and control.
We salute the NSmen among us for their unwavering dedication and recognise them as guardians of our homeland.
