Strengthening Defence Engineering Capabilities: Hunter Armoured Engineer Vehicle

09 Jan 2025

The Singapore Army commissioned the Hunter Armoured Engineer Vehicle (HT-AEV) on January 9, 2025, marking a significant step in defence engineering. Developed through a collaboration between DSTA, the Singapore Army, and ST Engineering, this partnership helped develop a vehicle with advanced digital capabilities and improved operational flexibility.

The new HT-AEV is built with greater mobility, survivability, and networked warfighting capabilities.

DSTA played a pivotal role in leading the acquisition and integration efforts for the HT-AEV, delivering a platform that strengthens the Army’s obstacle-clearing capabilities while enhancing crew safety and efficiency.

The HT-AEV’s front loader system and excavator arm enable it to displace obstacles, grip and lift heavy objects, and overcome anti-tank ditches. These capabilities enhance operational flexibility for the Army’s Combat Engineers, allowing them to adapt to different mission scenarios efficiently.

Furthermore, the HT-AEV enables obstacle-clearing tasks to be conducted entirely under closed hatch, which reduces the exposure of the crew to battlefield threats, improving overall survivability. Its ability to operate under protection during Army operations allows the combat engineers to perform missions with greater confidence and effectiveness.

In addition, DSTA designed and integrated user-friendly on-screen display guides, distance markers, and camera feeds into the vehicle’s Army Tactical Engagement and Information System (ARTEMIS). These features improve situational awareness and make obstacle-clearing operations more intuitive for the crew, specifically when clearing obstacles or manoeuvring in hostile environments.
