DSTA signed individual Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with Singapore’s five polytechnics on 31 July 2018 to train and equip students with relevant skills to kickstart a career in technology and engineering.

“The collaborations will give us a great opportunity to work with the polytechnics and students in diverse engineering disciplines, and help make engineering education a more attractive and exciting choice through hands-on experiences. Students could look forward to taking on real-world challenges and gaining new skills,” said DSTA Chief Executive Mr Tan Peng Yam, who signed the respective agreements with Principals and Deputy Principals from Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, and Temasek Polytechnic.
Under the partnerships, DSTA will work with each of the polytechnics to develop customised training curricula and programmes in fast-growing fields of technology, ranging from artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science and analytics, to automation and robotics, as well as systems engineering and systems management.
Training modes could include internships, hackathons and adjunct lecturing by DSTA engineers, to augment the practice-based learning approach adopted by polytechnics.
The partnerships also offer opportunities for both DSTA and the polytechnics’ staff to develop and update their competencies, as well as co-create novel proof of concepts and solutions.
