Cooking for Charity

08 Dec 2016

DSTA engineers can now add another feather to their cap: they can be brilliant cooks too! On 28 October and 14 November 2016, members were at Willing Hearts to prepare meals for the less fortunate as part of DSTA’s Volunteer-A-Day programme. Over 800kg of food items such as rice and noodles were also donated.

While some washed and cut vegetables, others helped to pack ingredients and cooking condiments in the kitchen store. A number of volunteers were busy with cooking or cleaning and washing chores. After a few hours of hard work, the volunteers finally managed to complete all the assigned tasks and saw the fruits of their labour – packets of warm meals – ready for distribution.

Programme Manager (Air Systems) Tham Kine Seng, who helped out as one of the chefs of the day, said: "Cooking for so many people is no mean feat, so kudos to the regular volunteers! It was a humbling volunteering experience, and I hope that our little actions have brightened up someone's day."

Engineer (Advanced Systems) Brian Ng shared: "I am thankful for the opportunity to take part in this activity, and I hope that our gesture of kindness can be a blessing to others."
